ArtCraft is an open-source creative software ecosystem developed by Brandon Thomas, designed to provide free, local alternatives to Adobe Creative Cloud and Microsoft Office products. The suite is built in Rust to ensure high performance and native desktop operation on macOS, Windows, and Linux, explicitly avoiding cloud dependencies, subscriptions, and telemetry.
The ecosystem consists of two main components:
- Crafting Apps: A suite of seven open-source applications that mirror Adobe’s core tools, including PhotoCraft (Photoshop alternative), FilmCraft (Premiere Pro alternative), LightCraft (Lightroom alternative), VectorCraft (Illustrator alternative), EffectCraft (After Effects alternative), DesignCraft (InDesign alternative), and PrintCraft (Acrobat alternative). These apps prioritize local file processing and aim for feature parity with their proprietary counterparts.
- ArtCraft Studio: A desktop and web-based AI creative engine that allows artists to generate and compose images, videos, and 3D assets with precise control. Unlike standard AI generators that rely solely on text prompts, this tool enables users to stage scenes, pose characters, and manage depth manually before rendering, supporting models like Seedance and Nano Banana.
While the core software is free and open-source, the AI generation features may require credits or subscriptions for external model usage. The project is currently in alpha or early beta stages, meaning some apps may lack full stability or 100% feature parity with industry-standard commercial software.
