Create a Custom Windows 11 USB with Rufus 4.14

on

Microsoft’s strict hardware requirements—TPM 2.0, Secure Boot, and 8GB+ RAM—have left millions of perfectly capable PCs unable to officially run Windows 11. But there’s good news: Rufus 4.14 makes it incredibly easy to create a custom installation USB that bypasses all of these restrictions.

Whether you’re upgrading an older laptop or simply want a local account instead of a Microsoft account, this guide has you covered.

What You’ll Need

  • Rufus 4.14 (or newer) – Download free from rufus.ie
  • Windows 11 ISO – Official download from Microsoft
  • USB drive – 8GB minimum, 16GB recommended (all data will be erased)

Step 1: Download the Windows 11 ISO

Head to Microsoft’s official download page. Under “Download Windows 11 Disk Image (ISO),” select Windows 11, choose your language, and download the 64-bit edition.

Step 2: Launch Rufus

Right-click rufus-4.14.exe and select Run as administrator. Your USB drive should appear automatically under the “Device” dropdown.

Step 3: Select Your ISO

Click the SELECT button and navigate to your downloaded Windows 11 ISO file.

Step 4: Configure Basic Settings

  • Partition scheme: GPT (for modern UEFI systems) or MBR (for older BIOS)
  • Target system: UEFI (non-CSM)

Step 5: The Magic Option – Extended Installation

After loading the ISO, look for the Image option dropdown. Select:

“Extended Windows 11 Installation (no TPM/no Secure Boot/8GB+ RAM)”

This single selection automatically bypasses:

  • TPM 2.0 requirement
  • Secure Boot requirement
  • 4GB+ RAM check
  • Forced Microsoft account login (enables local account creation)
