You can do Karaoke at home for free, all you need is an Internet connection, and a device with a web-browser.

On your web-browser go to YouTube a search the song you would like to sing followed by the word karaoke. (FYI: In Japanese karaoke means Empty Orchestra.) You will get results from channels like KaraFun, and Party Tyme. These will be videos will be the song requested with the vocals removed and the lyrics added. You, family and friends can have fun for hours singing thousands of songs.

Suspicious Minds Karaoke

You could do this with a computer, Chromebook, or smart TV. You could upgrade with some small powered speakers, home stereo system, or even a small PA system.

You could also purchase a microphones or two. There is no good reason to buy wireless microphones, and they break very easily. The Shure SM-58 since 1966 it has been the workhorse of the music industry. New they cost about $100, with an addition cost of $20 and up for a good microphone cord.

Offline Karaoke

Playing karaoke videos over YouTube is great and plenty adequate, but you may wish to step it up a bit. You can download the videos to your computer for offline access.

There are many ways to accomplish this with various programs like VLC, but the most seamless way I’ve found is using a program found in the Microsoft Store called YTDownloader. It is free unless you need high definition video.

Record Yourself

Once you have these files you might think you would like to record these great performances. This can be accomplished with a program called a DAW (Digital Audio Workstation). A good one that is free to try is Reaper. There is a bit of a learning curve to using a DAW like reaper but it is not rocket science.
