Gimp’s Foreground Selection Tool

on

Making precise selections in GIMP is crucial in almost any project. GIMP has several tools to do this. Each has its advantages and disadvantages. There is no one tool for everything.

  1. the Rectangle Select;
  2. the Ellipse Select;
  3. the Free Select (the Lasso);
  4. the Select Contiguous Regions (the Magic Wand) ;
  5. the Select by Color;
  6. the Select Shapes from Image (Intelligent Scissors) and.
  7. the Foreground Select.

The new kid on the block is “Foreground Selection Tool.” This tool lets you extract the foreground from the active layer or from a selection. I’ve been waiting for this tool since I saw it in PhotoShop, several iterations ago.
