Wyze Cams Update 2023

Wyze Labs manufacturer of a very popular line of security cameras, launched there first product Wyze Cam version 1 August 19, 2017. Since then they’ve produced a variety of products many of these products are not security related. These products have been met with varying success.

Wyze Cam v3

For me the standout has been Wyze Cam v3. Released on October 27, 2020. V3 was a game changer with its high quality color video, event at night, IP65 weather resistance, higher frame rate, real two-way talk, and the dual IR light system.

The Wyse Cam v3 is still a bargain at $35.98.

Wyze Cam v3 Pro

The v3 Pro is basically a v3 with a slightly different aspect ratio and a LED light built in.

The Wyze Cam v3 Pro cost $49.99

Wyze Cam OG

The Wyze Cam OG is Wyze’s return to it’s camera roots. The OG has similar the features to the V3 including the IP65 weatherproofing at a lower price. Like the V3 Pro the OG has a small LED light. The OG also comes with a new swivel base, which makes it easier to point.

The Wyze Cam OG also has a telephoto version. 3X closer and no light.

The introductory pricing for the OG is $19.99 and $29.99. At some point this price will be raised by $5 I think.

Wyze Cam v3 Pan

The new v3 Pan is a big upgrade from version 1 and 2. It has a higher resolution than the v1 and v2. It has the IP65 weatherproofing. It has a whole new tilt and pan strategy this and the weatherproofing makes this camera ideal for outdoor use.

Wyze Cam v3 Pan is priced at $33.99 for now.

My Wyze Deployment

I now have 3 Wyze Cam v3s outside with the Wyze Cam Plus service. which enables some very useful functionality like “Person Detection”, which cuts down on erroneous events. It knows the difference between a tree moving and a person. My v3s are also equipped with a 32GB SD cards that can record continuously. Not necessary but a purchased 3 PEF Mounts from Amazon. They are better then mount the cameras to the exterior with a single screw.

I was going get a v3 Pro for my back porch because of the little light, but I’ve gone with OG. I haven’t received the camera yet therefore I have no review, but I’ll let you know what I think of it when I’ve used it a little.

I’ll probably redeploy my Outdoor Cams to the sides of the house. I really don’t like the Outdoor Cams but they are payed for.

Inside I have an original Wyze Cam Pan (overkill for such a small room). In a different room I have a V2 Cam. I may upgrade them to V3s or OGs.

I like and use the original Wyze Bulb White both inside and out.
