Gaming Comes to the Cloud

When I announced 17 years ago at one of my first KIPCUG (Kentucky Indiana Personal Computer User Group) that most of our computing activities would be in the cloud (meaning remote servers would be doing most of the work) I think it might have been an understatement.

A few months ago Google announced Stadia a  cloud gaming service said to be capable of streaming video games up to 4K resolution at 60 frames per second. Stadia will be accessible through the desktop Google Chrome web browser, on smartphones, smart televisions and tablets.

Now Microsoft has just announced their new gaming platform called xCloud. With Project xCloud (Preview) players can play Xbox favorites on their Android phone or tablet directly from the cloud, including Gears 5, Halo 5, Killer Instinct, and Sea of Thieves— no waiting for downloads.
