Getting and creating virtual machines in Virtualbox

VirtualBox is a hypervisor (a piece of computer software that creates and runs virtual machines). With it you can run any version of Windows, DOS, Linux, BSD or Solaris on your Windows, Macintosh or Linux machine.

There are many reasons someone may have a need for a virtual machine like:

  1. running old apps,
  2. access virus-infected data,
  3. browse in complete safely,
  4. testing software, upgrades, or new configurations,
  5. run Linux on top of Windows (or vice-versa),
  6. reuse old hardware,

and many more.
