3-2-1 Backup Strategy

The purpose of a backup is to make sure that your digital data can survive any of the hazards that await. Fire, flood, burglaries, hard-drive failure and disasters of all kinds are no problem if you follow some basic rules. With the 3-2-1 Backup Strategy you always have at least 3 copies of your data:

  1. One on your computer,
  2. one on some physical media like a flash-drive or external hard-drive witch is best for this kind of backup,
  3. and a third offsite. This can be online backup like Carbonite, Mozy, CrashPlan but it also maybe a second external hard-drive that you keep at your mother’s house.

The offsite component is particularly important because backups are no good to you if they’re stolen or destroyed. Read what happened to this Oscar winning author!
